2009 where did you go?

It has been WAY too long since I have last blogged. 2009 was a very busy year for us and we couldn't be any more excited for 2010!

This fall I was given an opportunity to leave "Corporate America" to pursue my dream of doing photography full-time - I took it........ and never looked back! I truly believe that you should do what you love and what challenges and inspires you. Photography is that for me! I love each and every client and so lucky to have the most amazing clients. Ever.

Here's a glimpse of some of my rock star clients that I had the privilege to capture last year.

To all of my clients, friends and family thank you so much for allowing me to do what I love the most. 2010 is already off to an amazing start!

Relay for Life: Walking for Kim

Have you ever been around someone that is a ray of sunshine on a cloudy day? Someone who always sees the glass as half full and you would never know that they have had a bad day? That someone is my sister-in-law, Kim. She is the most positive person I have ever met. ever. In late January, Kim was diagnosed with breast cancer. My world came crashing down with memories of loved ones past. Kim on the other hand took it as a challenge to see how happy and positive she could remain. After treatments, Kim sends out updates to let friends and family know how well she is doing. In one of her recent updates Kim selflessly asks for cards and prayers for another young cancer survivor battling the disease on her own. Kim always puts others before herself. Always. So, when I was asked to walk in the Relay for Life in honor of Kim I never hesitated. Absolutely, I would never miss it!

The event started by having the survivors take the first lap. Each survivor introduced themselves and said how long ago they were diagnosed.

Half way through the first lap each survivor was greeted by their designated sponsor. My husband, Jason, was asked and he was HONORED.

One of the team contests during the night was a queen competition. You had to dress up 1 guy from your team as a girl. Each queen candidate had to answer a series of (hilarious) feminine questions. After the Q&A session each candidate had to strut their stuff down the track "pimpin" for cash. The candidate with the most cash won. Can you see where this is going?!? It's a good thing my boy is comfortable in his own skin because yes - he was nominated for our team to represent! Here is a CENSORED picture with Kim.....

Needless to say, Jason won!! I can't begin to tell you how relieved I was when it was all over with and he could wear normal clothes.
For those of you on Facebook you can see the series on the group page: "Team Kim: Network of Support".

Prior to the walk Kim had recently had a chemo treatment known as the "Red Devil". She is such a trooper - you would of never known. I have been blessed to have married into such an amazing family. Kim is my hero!!
If you see me walking ...I walk in memory of my mother-in-law, Joyce; I walk in honor of my sister-in-law, Kim; I walk for all of the survivors; I walk because I have Life. And dang, it's beautiful.

Playing at Royals Stadium: Family

It seems like it was just a few short years ago my nephew was just a lil' guy playing ball on the playground. Now he's almost 6'5" and is a Freshman starter on Concordia High School's baseball team. Cale's high school was given the opportunity to play baseball at Kauffman Stadium if they sold enough Royals ticket as a fundraiser. When the Booster Club stepped up and bought the remaining 300 tickets - it sealed the deal for the kids, and they could not have been any more excited! I mean, how many people can say they got to play baseball at a professional facility?! What an opportunity! Their opponent: Wellington Napoleon High School! WNHS team is all seniors and CHS are all Sophomores and Freshman! The guys played AMAZING and CHS pulled out the win! Needless to say, I'm a proud Aunt!!

Here's a few of my favorites from the day:

The real hero here is my sister-in-law, Kim. She was recently diagnosed with Breast Cancer and just had her second round of chemo prior to coming to the game to watch her son!! What an amazing inspiration!!

Happy Anniversary: Joel & Lisa

Joel and Lisa started their Happily Ever After one year ago today. I had the honor and privilege of documenting their wedding day! One year ago today they shared love, tears, and lots and lots of laughter - they could not take their eyes off each other! 7 months ago I learned that Joel and Lisa were expecting parents and on April 8th their love culminated with their son Otto! Needless to say I was thrilled when they asked me to capture his first few days.

One year later, they still can not take their eyes off each other!

Happy Anniversary Joel and Lisa! Thank you so much for allowing me to document your son's newborn images.

Coming out of the dark!

The other day I came home and I had just had one of those days when you just need a good laugh to lighten the day. As I walked into my bedroom, getting ready to throw my coat on my bed (I mean hang it up!), I see my cat Truman laying on the bed with my lap top open. As I get closer to see what is going on, I hear a snicker come from the master bathroom. I looked down and see that Truman has Pet Smart's web page up and a credit card in paw - I died laughing! My amazing husband, Jason, got home before me and saw Truman laying down right in front of my laptop and couldn't resist. Thanks, I needed that babe!

Well, our crew has decided to jump in on this phenomenon called blogging! I'm not sure why but blogging has always been a terrifying thing to me. I'm sure it has nothing to do with my ability to use the wrong tenses or that I have never enjoyed writing! My high school teachers and college professors can attest to this! Well, if Truman can shop for the latest cat fashion online then surely I can blog! And what would a first blog post be without a giveaway?! Leave us a comment and we will randomly select a winner for a $50 gift certificate towards your next 2009 session!
Since everything goes better with a picture, here is Truman trying to buy the latest in cat couture!

We have also recently launched a new site - check it out! Check back soon -I'll be posting updates with all of our recent sessions and what is new with us!
